Visiting Scholars from Karshi State University, Uzbekistan
The School of Languages, Literacies and Translation (SoLLaT) recently welcomed two distinguished scholars from Karshi State University, Uzbekistan, Associate Professor Dr. Nilufar Jumaeva and Professor Dr. Gulbakhor Tojieva, for a two-week academic attachment from 27 October to 7 November 2025.

The primary objective of their visit was to gain insight into the teaching and learning practices of the Master of Arts in Translation for Professionals (MATFP) programme. To support this goal, the MATFP section organised a range of activities to provide a meaningful and productive experience during their stay. These included meetings with the Dean and Deputy Deans, a collaborative discussion session with MATFP academic staff, and class observations to exchange perspectives on translation pedagogy and curriculum development.

As part of their academic contribution, both scholars delivered a special lecture titled “Bridging Cultures: The English Translation of Uzbek Literature” on 6 November 2025 (Thursday). The hybrid session offered an enlightening exploration of Central Asian literary translation, focusing on how linguistic and cultural nuances are conveyed in English translations of renowned Uzbek authors such as Alisher Navoi and Abdulla Qodiriy.
Their visit fostered enriching academic exchange and strengthened cross-cultural collaboration between Karshi State University and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The engagement exemplifies SoLLaT’s ongoing commitment to promoting global partnerships and intercultural understanding in the field of translation and language studies.
