OVERVIEW
The MUET Preparation Workshop was successfully conducted to support students in enhancing their English language proficiency and exam readiness for the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Writing Skills. This initiative aligns with our objective of promoting educational development and preparing students for higher education.
OBJECTIVES
- To collaborate with corporate bodies as agents of change in line with the role of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) towards society in the field of education.
- To assist students in familiarizing themselves with the MUET exam structure for writing skill.
- To help students master techniques and strategies for answering writing component.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
The Malaysian University English Test (MUET) assesses candidates' English language proficiency to help universities make informed decisions about prospective students' readiness for academic coursework, as well as their ability to use and understand English in various higher education contexts.
MUET evaluates the candidates’ proficiency level using an aggregate score from 1 to 360, which corresponds to Band 1 to Band 5+, and measures all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Candidates who complete all four parts of the exam will receive a certificate of completion.
LEARNING OUTCOME
After attending this workshop, students will be able to:
- Exhibit effective writing skills for tasks and assessments such as emails, letters, and the ability to express opinions on topics.
- Apply effective writing skills in various social and academic contexts.
PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS
A total of 12 schools participated in the workshop with a total number of 97 students. Each school was represented by enthusiastic and well-prepared students who showcased commendable levels of confidence, language proficiency, and critical thinking. The participants were highly engaged and showed positive enthusiasm throughout the program.
OVERALL PROGRAMME SUMMARY
Feedback collected from participants indicated a high level of satisfaction. Students appreciated the practical approach and found the tips and techniques extremely useful. Many expressed interests in attending similar sessions in the future. The closing ceremony was officiated by Dato’ Haji Abdul Said bin Hussain, the former Director of Education of Penang. In his speech, he congratulated all students for their active participation and commitment throughout the MUET Preparation Workshop. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in building students’ confidence and readiness for academic challenges, particularly in mastering the English language.
He also commended the organizers for their proactive efforts and acknowledged the valuable role of corporate partnerships in advancing educational development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He also reminded students that language is not merely a subject to be studied, but a powerful tool that connects individuals to greater opportunities in life. The speech ended with a message of encouragement for all participants to continue striving for excellence beyond the classroom and to embrace every learning experience as a stepping stone toward success.
Also present during the ceremony were Dato’ Seri Haji Haja Najmudeen Kader, President of Liga Muslim Pulau Pinang, Dato Dr. Shahul Hameed, Deputy President of Liga Muslim Pulau Pinang and Tuan Jamil Kader Gani, President of Pertubuhan Belia Liga Muslim.
FINAL REMARK
The MUET Preparation Workshop (Writing Skills) successfully met its objectives and provided valuable support to students preparing for MUET. We hope to continue organizing such initiatives to contribute towards students’ academic growth and language development.
