State English Language Pentathlon 2025

The State Language Pentathlon 2025 was an engaging and intellectually stimulating event held on 18 June 2025. It aimed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and communicative competence among students. This annual event brought together over 120 participants from various secondary schools showcasing their proficiency in English through five challenging language-based tasks.

The pentathlon consisted of five core events, each testing a different aspect of language ability:

  1. Spelling Bee – Accuracy and vocabulary
  2. Impromptu Speaking – Public speaking and fluency under pressure
  3. Debate – Argumentation, critical thinking, and teamwork
  4. Tick Tock – Originality and linguistic creativity
  5. patch it up – Team-based grammar and editing challenge

Participants demonstrated enthusiasm, linguistic flair, and team spirit. The competition was intense yet friendly, with lively interaction among students from schools. Volunteers and organizing committee members ensured the event ran smoothly and on schedule.

The majority of the adjudicators were from the BA EfP section and other staff from the School of Languages Literacies and Translation.They assessed online activities too besides adjudicating competitions at the school.

The Language Pentathlon 2025 was a resounding success, fulfilling its mission to celebrate language learning through competition. It provided a platform for students to refine their communication skills and gain confidence. The school, Convent Green Lane plans to expand the event next year by inviting external institutions and incorporating multilingual elements.
