The 4th Congress of Spanish as a Foreign Language in Asia-Pacific (CELEAP 2026)

The School of Languages, Literacies and Translation (SoLLaT), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), proudly hosted the 4th Congress of Spanish as a Foreign Language in Asia-Pacific (CELEAP) from 18–20 September 2026.

The event was jointly organised by the Spanish Education Office in Southeast Asia, the Cervantes Institute in Manila, the Embassy of Spain in Kuala Lumpur, and the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation, Universiti Sains Malaysia.

The congress was officially opened by Professor Datin Dr. Noor Hazlina Ahmad, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Held under the theme “Spanish in the Digital Era: Practices, Challenges and Opportunities,” the two-day international congress brought together approximately 65 participants from 15 countries to USM’s lush green campus in Penang. The event provided an important platform for academics, educators, researchers, and professionals involved in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language to exchange knowledge, share innovative practices, discuss emerging challenges, and explore new opportunities arising from the digital transformation of language education.

Hosting CELEAP 2026 further reflects USM’s commitment to international academic engagements and cross-cultural collaborations, strengthening connections among institutions and professionals involved in Spanish language education across the Asia-Pacific region.
