USM PENANG, 12 December 2025 – In conjunction with the Higher Education English Language Carnival (HE ELCa) 2025 organised recently and hosted by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), a MaLDeC meeting was also held prior to the event.

MaLDeC, which refers for the ‘Malaysian Language Education Deans Council’ (Majlis Dekan-dekan Bahasa Universiti Awam), held its 4th meeting among the Deans of Language Schools/Departments from the public universities in the country.

The meeting focused on reviewing previous decisions and discussing ongoing initiatives related to language education in public universities. It included updates on strategic projects, progress reports from various working groups, and planning for future activities.

Key topics involved strengthening language programmes, exploring collaborative opportunities, and aligning with national requirements.

The session also addressed upcoming events, resource development, and scheduling for the next year.

The Dean of the USM School of Languages, Literacies and Translation (SoLLaT), Professor Dr. Hazri Jamil, was among the deans and representatives from 20 public universities who attended the meeting.

Each university will take turn to host the meeting on a rotational basis.

MaLDeC, alongside the Department of Higher Education (JPT), serve as the Main Collaborator and Co-organiser of the HE ELCA programme, which began in 2017.
