THE 43rd JAPANESE SPEECH CONTEST

Rules and Regulation

1. General

1.1 The speech contest is divided into 2 categories, namely:-

(a) Student category

(b) Open category

The applicants are required to apply under the appropriate category.

1.2 Each application for student category must be endorsed by the school’s principal.

1.3 Holding the manuscript during speech is not allowed.

1.4 The manuscript must be an ORIGINAL work of the applicant and the speech must not have previously been delivered in other contests or events.

1.5 Manuscripts prepared using ChatGPT or other AI shall be disqualified.

1.6 Application documents and the relevant documents will be available for download at a later date.

2. Theme & Length of speech

2.1 Open Category

There is no theme of the speech ; therefore, the applicants are free to make a speech about anything they wish. The applicants are to decide their own appropriate title. The speech must last at least 5 minutes’ length but within 8 minutes. Creative speech is appreciated. The contestants can use Power Point for the presentation. There will be a Q&A session after the presentation.

2.2 Student Category

There is no theme of the speech ; therefore, the applicants are free to make a speech about anything they wish. The applicants are to decide their own appropriate title. The speech must last at least 3 minutes’ length but within 5 minutes. Creative speech is appreciated. There will be a Q&A session after the speech.

3. Contestant’s Eligibility

3.1 Open Category

Open to individuals who:-

(a) have a Malaysian nationality or are currently attending educational institution in

Malaysia more than 6 months.

(b) reside or are attending an educational institution in the States of Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan or Terengganu as of 4th November 2023.

(c) are NOT currently attending secondary schools in Malaysia as of 4th November 2023.

(d) are 18 and above as of 4th November 2023.

(e) have not stayed in Japan for a total of 6 months as 4th November 2023.

(f) whose mother tongue is not Japanese; and

(g) either parent is not Japanese national.

3.2 Student Category

Open to the students who:-

(a) are currently attending secondary school in the States of Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan or Terengganu as of 4th November 2023.

(b) have not stayed in Japan for a total of 6 months as of 4th November 2023.

(c) whose mother tongue is not Japanese; and

(d) either parent is not Japanese national.

4. Application

The Application procedure for each category is as follows.

The application form together with the speech manuscript must be submitted to the Secretariat by email before the stipulated date.

5. Screening

5.1 The Secretariat will conduct the 1st screening based on the handwritten application form and the manuscript.

5.2 Contest finalists will be informed by the Secretariat approximately 10 days prior to the contest.

6. Prizes and result

6.1 Higher-ranking winners from each category will be awarded with various prizes.Certificates will be presented to all the finalists.

6.2 The result decided by the judge panel is final. No objections will be accepted.

7. Closing Date

7.1 Completed application form together with the manuscript must be submitted to the Secretariat by its stipulated closing date.

(Registration begins 9:30 a.m.)
