USM-UOW INKS AGREEMENT FOR OFFSHORE BACHELOR’S PROGRAMME
BATU KAWAN, PENANG, 18 February 2025 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), through the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation (SoLLaT), has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the University of Wollongong (UOW) Malaysia KDU Penang University College, Batu Kawan campus.
Representing USM Vice-Chancellor in signing the MoA was Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and International, Professor Dato’ Gs. Dr. Narimah Samat, while UOW was represented by the CEO of UOW Malaysia cum CEO Asia of UOW Global Enterprises, Jennifer Ng.

In her opening speech, Jennifer stated that the MoA signed signifies another milestone which highlights the commitment towards providing opportunities in education that is inclusive and stimulating.
“This offshore collaboration for the English for Professionals (EfP) Bachelor’s programme between UOW and USM is the second collaboration between the two institutions, and which would serve as a stepping stone for more successful collaborations in the future,” she said.
She added, “This partnership is built on three pillars, which are: Global Readiness, Affordability and Accessibility, and Cultural/Academic Exchange in ensuring that it would be a globally-relevant programme. USM would be offering the degree, and classes would be held at UOW.”
Narimah, who then said in her speech that this MoA is yet another achievement with UOW which began during the pandemic.
“From then on, there is always the realisation on how to provide more space and talents on the education platform.
“There are some academic programmes that are in high demand at USM, with EfP being one of them, and one of the reasons it was chosen for the MoA,” she said.
She further said that the MoA would provide the students with access to resources available at both campuses.
“This would surely provide another opportunity for students, especially those from abroad, to have access to a programme that would benefit them in the future,” said Narimah.
Others who were present at the ceremony was UOW Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Chong Beng Keok; UOW Head of Operations, Professor Dr. Yeap Gik Hong; Dean USM School of Languages, Literacies and Translation, Professor Dr. Hazri Jamil; Deputy Dean Academic, Career and International, Azril Ali; Deputy Dean Talent Development, Professional and Students, Kelana Ahmad; Principal Assistant Registrar, Aizat Hisham Ahmad; as well as UOW and USM Heads of Departments, key officials, and staff members.
